Victorian, Arnachellum Bowie Knife, Circa 1880
Victorian, Arnachellum Bowie Knife, Circa 1880
Scarce, Indian Arnachellum of Salem 19th century Bowie knife.
Tamil Nadu was a famous producer of high quality knives during the Victorian era, much used by British officers when hunting or as a campaign knife.
This example has a 8" blade, being a little over 13" overall. Horn grip with white metal (silver) chased pommel cap, all tight with no movement. Leather covered wooden scabbard with fine cross hatched decoration, with belt loop.
Blade good, with small areas of light staining, no serious or deep pitting, but signs of sharping & field use. Nice large, early Anglo Indian knife.
Ex David Hayden-Wright collection.
